Ground Instructor

Bill was born, raised, and schooled in Leicester.  On leaving school he was apprenticed to Jones and Shipman, a large machine tools manufacturer.

On completion of his apprenticeship, Bill moved on to driving lorries and eventually established his own firm and concentrated on moving large machinery.  Following around 25 years in the business, he wound down his operation slowly and gently entered retirement.

Bill joined the School and learnt to fly in 2000.  He was one of the first members to receive the European JAR licence at around that time.  He purchased a Piper Warrior which he placed on the fleet for many years.  He has worked closely with our resident engineer on the servicing and repair of our fleet of aeroplanes.

Bill is one of our resident ground instructors and carries out Exercises 1 &2 (Aeroplane Familiarisation) training for all our new student pilots.  He is married to Sue and has two sons – William and Ben.
