Director, Principal & Accountable Manager

Rodney Galiffe is the Director, Principal and DTO Accountable Manager of the South Warwickshire School of Flying Limited – the operating Company.

He took over first as Principal on leaving the British Army in the summer of 1989.  His prime aim was to develop the school into one of the finest flying training organisations and member’s club offering unequalled customer care and service which would be ‘Second to None’.

Rodney is the scion of an ancient Genevese family.  Born in Bangalore, India, the family had been settled in that city as it was the closest to their coffee plantation and estates of the last two generations of the family.

His aviation career commenced in 1974 with a joyride from the Madras Flying Club.  On leaving School in 1977, Rodney entered the Army and served in the Corps of the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers.   His departure ended two hundred years of loyal family service in the British Army which commenced in 1794 during the revolutionary wars in Europe.

He gained a UK Pilot’s Licence at King Air Flying Club, Biggin Hill, where he added the night, IMC and multi-engine rating to his licence.  On re-entering civilian life in 1986, he qualified as a Commercial Pilot with an Instrument rating on single and multi-engine aeroplanes at the Kankakee School of Aeronautics in Illinois.  He was appointed a CAA Ground and Ratings Examiner at the School in 1991.  He is married to Kim; a fellow director and his children are Charlotte and Barnaby.
