David Archer was born, brought up and spent most of his working life in West Yorkshire, only moving to Warwickshire some 15 years ago, to be closer to his children and their families.

After qualifying as a Mechanical Engineer in 1967 he commenced work in the fledgling Fibre Optics industry, a technology which continued to provide gainful employment until his ‘official’ retirement in 2009 and part-time consultancy after that until autumn 2017.

David acquired his Private Pilot’s Licence at the SWFS in 2008 and now flies regularly on many of the club outings.   He also enjoys building & crashing radio-controlled model aircraft.   David took over RT instruction at the SWFS from Alan Seeds in 2022, and now provides one-to-one RT instruction, usually online using Zoom.

David is an active member of his local U3A Science & IT groups and has been a member of Dorridge Probus Club since 2015, where he is now the Treasurer.
