Chas Cook – Staff Flying Instructor
Chas Cook
Staff Flying Instructor
Chas had his first flying experience at the age of eight in Tiger Moth and was inspired to learn to fly even that early age. He achieved this through ATC gliding, and a PPL followed. He became a B Category Gliding Instructor, again with the ATC this time at Kenley, and this was followed by Qualified Flying Instructor, teaching SEP and IRR at Biggin Hill.
He then joined the airline Air UK based at Stansted, flying the Fokker F27 and BAE 146 before gaining a command on the F27. This was followed by a Line Training Captain and Simulator Examiner and Instructor appointment, and from there he moved onto the Fokker 100 fleet, again in the Simulator Trainer and Examiner and Line Training Captain role. He was in the airline for 16 years, latterly during its transition to become KLM UK where he was also member of the Flight Safety team.
He left the airline to go into corporate aviation, and flew the Citation Excel for Netjets, following this with a short time at Thompsonfly on the Boeing 737, before being appointed Head of Training at TAG Aviation Farnborough. Whilst with TAG, he flew the Citation Sovereign, Falcon 900EX Easy and the Boeing 757, and then left TAG after 8 years to spend time in the Caribbean flying the Falcon 900EX Easy again – one of his favourite aircraft to operate. Back in the UK he initially flew the Beech 400 Nextant for a short time before transitioning on to the Embraer Legacy 500/Praetor, which he now flies on a freelance basis as a Line Training Captain
Over his career Chas has completed 10 aircraft type ratings, has over 13,000 hours flying, over 30 years’ experience of training in the corporate, airline and general aviation worlds, and continues his passion for training in general aviation with us here at the School. “It’s a real pleasure to be part of the team”.
Chas is married to Debra, a corporate flight attendant, and he has two children, Alex and Sarah.
