Head of Training
Jon Davy joined the staff in December 2023 following a successful military and civilian career as a pilot. He holds a BEng (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering and an MA (Dist) on Britain and the First World War.
Jon commenced his career in the Royal Air Force and learnt on the Bulldog and Jet Provost 5A. Following training on the BAe Jetstream he qualified on the Lockhead C130 Hercules in 1992. Escaping from RAF Lyneham in 1995, he spent two very happy years at RAF Linton-on-Ouse on the Tucano as an A2 QFI & IRE. He moved to RAF Valley in 1997, transferring to instructing on the BAe Hawk. In 2000 he moved on to the Jaguar, carrying our various roles as an air-to-air refuelling instructor, IRE and the Jaguar Air Test Pilot thereafter as an A2 QFI on type. Moving on to the Typhoon in 2007, he flew the aeroplane until retiring from the RAF in 2011.
Jon joined Virgin Atlantic Airways in early 2012 and was lucky enough to fly the mighty Boeing 747-400 for four years before moving on to the delightful Boeing 787-9, which he flew until taking early retirement and joining the team at the School. Jon brings to our team a considerable knowledge of flying instruction and mentoring of pilots at all levels.
Jon has many varied interests and as a historian in European military history, he remains a professional battlefield guide. He lives in Leamington Spa with his wife and two cats and enjoys fencing, real tennis, cooking and attempting to tame his allotment.
